Meet Birdsong Farm’s first Jersey cow family!
Birdsong Farm’s Blossom family started with my very first cow, Birdsong Summer Blossom, in the summer of 2003.
Blossom was a Jersey/Black Dexter/Red Angus cross, and I recorded her as 0% pure Jersey. After five generations of breeding, I can register the calves as 100% pure Jersey thanks to Jersey Canada’s Grade-Up Program.
Blossom’s offspring are given flower names. Present cows in the Blossom family are Birdsong Golden Buttercup EX 90-4E, Birdsong Remembrance Poppy VG 85, Birdsong Winter Snowdrop VG 87, Birdsong Crystal Violet VG 86, Birdsong Mountain Heather G 79, Birdsong Legacy Blossom, and Birdsong Delightful Bluebell.
Past cows are Birdsong Summer Blossom -P (sold in 2012), Birdsong Blossom’s Daisy VG 87 (sold in 2014), Birdsong Autumn Aster GP 83 (sold in 2015), Birdsong Shirley Rose VG 88 (sold in 2020), Birdsong Sweet Jasmine VG 87 (culled in 2021), and Birdsong Sunshine Marigold (died in 2018).

Birdsong Golden Buttercup
Buttercup was born at Birdsong Farm on July 13, 2014. Her sire is Guimo JOEL, and her dam is Birdsong Autumn ASTER GP 83.
Buttercup is registered as 75% pure with Jersey Canada; please click on the logo above to view her pedigree. If bred with a purebred Jersey bull, Buttercup’s female calves can be registered as 87.5% pure with Jersey Canada.
Buttercup is tested as A1A2 for Beta Casein As, and BB for Kappa Casein. She is genotyped with the 150K SNP, and has a GLPI of 1063 (GEBV 24*Aug, 59% reliability). She is tested negative for JH1, and is a carrier of JNS.
Buttercup was classified as Good Plus 83 (2-6) in February 2017, Very Good 85 (3-7) in February 2018, Very Good 88 (4-11) in June 2019, and Excellent 90 in September 2020 (6-1), February 2022 (7-7), October 2022 (8-3), and July 2024 (9-11).
Buttercup placed 4th in the Summer Yearling class at the Armstrong IPE in 2015, and 3rd in the 2-Year-Old class at the North Okanagan Spring Show in 2016.

Birdsong Remembrance Poppy
BIRDSONG REMEMBRANCE POPPY was born at Bomi Farms on November 11, 2018.
Poppy’s dam is BIRDSONG GOLDEN BUTTERCUP VG 85, and her sire is ARETHUSA VIRTUOSO. Poppy is registered as 87.5% pure with Jersey Canada; please click on the Jersey Canada logo next to her name to view her pedigree.
Poppy is tested as A1A1 for Beta Casein, AB for Kappa Casein, and BB for Beta Lactoglobulin.

Birdsong Crystal Violet

Birdsong Mountain Heather
BIRDSONG MOUNTAIN HEATHER was born on July 28, 2021. Her dam is BIRDSONG SWEET JASMINE VG 87 and her sire is ST-LO VIDEO.
Mountain Heather will be registered as 93.7% pure with Jersey Canada. She is A2A2 for Beta Casein A2 and BB for Kappa Casein by parentage, but will be tested and parentage verified by 6 months of age.
Mountain Heather is tested as A2/A2 for Beta Casein A2, AA for Beta Casein AB, BB for Kappa Casein, and BB for Beta Lactoglobulin.
Heather’s first calf, X, was born on January 14, 2024, and she was bred with LAITJOIE LIGHTNING on June 11, 2024 for a March 16, 2025 due date.
Birdsong Legacy Blossom
BIRDSONG LEGACY BLOSSOM completes six generations of breeding over a span of 20 years and is the first purebred Jersey in my Blossom cow family.
Birdsong Delightful Bluebell
Bluebell was born September 17, 2024. Her dam is Birdsong Remembrance Poppy and her sire is Laitjoie Lightning.
